Sea Kayak Safety

$235.00

If you are participating in the Sea Kayak Leg of the **Ski to Sea Race** and need to rent a kayak, if you take this course, we will give you a $50 voucher for a race day kayak rental! Contact us after you get registered, and we will get you all set up.

What do you do if you fall out of your kayak away from shore? What do you do if your paddling partner falls out of their kayak?

Rescue Skills are among the most valuable skills for paddlers wanting to spend time on the water. Whether you’re just getting started or have been at it for a while, this course will act as an introduction, refresher, and “tune-up” for kayakers at all levels. Body Boat Blade Coaches are up to date on the most effective and efficient methods for kayak rescues.

In this class, we will focus on the wet exit, assisted partner rescue, self-rescue, towing, and calling for help on the water. There are different techniques for each, and we will break them down into parts so you can choose which method works best for you. We’ll also work on our foundation kayaking skills as they relate to safety and rescue

This class pairs well with our other Foundations courses. It is a good precursor to our 2-day Incident Management course, where we dive deep into risk management and how to respond to sea kayaking’s most common (and some uncommon) incidents.

Ski to Sea – The original multisport relay race, from Mt. Baker to Bellingham Bay

Foundation courses develop good body awareness, balance, and understanding of how the boat and paddle interact with the water. A solid base of skills will make you a more efficient paddler. The goal for this course is to promote efficient, effective, and ergonomic kayaking for long-term paddler development.
